Check out the Cool Stuff I Found . . .

I hope none of these sites are blocked for teachers or students. If they are, please let me know.

K12 Online Conference

Check out the K12 Online Conference. It's a FREE conference that will help you find new ideas for using Web 2.0 technologies, and even better, will give you opportunities to collaborate with others. If you can't visit the live sessions, you can access the archives. You can find the schedule here. I certainly plan to "attend" as much as possible, so I hope some of you will join me.

NMAAHC

The National Museum of African American History and Culture is available on the web from the Smithsonian Institute. The site lists four main purposes:

  • to create an opportunity for those who care about or who are interested in African American culture to explore and revel in this history
  • to help all Americans see just how central African American history is for all of us
  • to help all Americans see how their stories, their histories, and their cultures are shaped and informed by international considerations
  • to be a place of collaboration.

This looks like a great site because not only does it provide a valuable learning experience, but it is also collaborative and interactive.

Preezo

Preezo is a presentation site. You can create presentations very similar to PowerPoint presentations, but you don't have to worry about how to get the presentation to someone else. You just send or post the link to your presentation.

Warning to Safari users--it doesn't appear to work in Safari, so you'll have to go to Firefox if you want to use it.

Voice Thread

Voice Thread is a really cool site where you can create presentations with images, drawings, recorded commentary, and typed commentary. You can browse the voice threads that have already been created, or you can create your own. I can see this as a great tool for providing information for students who miss your class, but that's just a beginning.

You can check out one that I created here, but if you have an aversion to Black and Gold, don't bother looking.
