Know It All

I have always loved learning. I want to learn as much as I can about as many different things as I can. I don't want to ask anyone else to do things for me; I want to learn how to do everything myself, and I hate when I forget things I thought I had already learned. For instance, I'm frustrated that I don't remember what I learned in high school physics and calculus. I think I should still know that stuff.

The Internet offers us the opportunity to look up information we forget or don't yet know. I often say, "How did I find stuff before the Internet was invented?" (I wish the Internet could find my cell phone when I misplace it.)

However, the Internet also frustrates me. I look at it as a deep, deep mine of information, and I have only just begun to brush the smallest of dust particles off the top layer. How will I ever learn everything that's on the Internet?

Okay, so I won't. But I know that some really cool gems are buried deep down (or maybe even not so deeply), and I don't even know they exist. What if I never find them? For instance, look at this incredibly awesome site: Universcale.

How long has it been available without my knowing about it? How many more incredibly awesome, cool, unbelievable sites exist that I'll never find??

Maybe I can make a rule that anyone who creates a new, cool site has to notify me . . .

Okay, maybe not.

But we live in an exciting time where knowledge is available to us in just a few seconds, and we need to use that vast store of knowledge not just for ourselves, but also for our students.

It's a pretty good bet that I will never reach my goal of knowing everything about everything, but I'll keep looking . . . and you can look, too--at Universcale, and at the new content that I've added to Tech Tips and Good Stuff.
