Sunrise on the Elizabeth River

I woke up to this view on Saturday morning.

This has nothing to do with technology (except for the fact that I used a digital SLR to take the picture). It just made me think of how I've been trying to get so much done in the last few months--creating a new website design for the school, networking with ed tech leaders to learn as much as possible, trying to encourage administrators and staff to use web 2.0, trying to stay out of trouble, gearing up for all the questions I'll have to answer about Pinnacle on Monday, being unusually worried about Tuesday's election . . . . . . . .

My nephew asked me to stay at his house on Halloween night, and when his friends got mad at him because he wouldn't go to a party that night and his only reason was, "My aunt is coming over," he said, "You don't understand. She's my idol." Yeah, that's one for the archives.

And that's why I was able to see the sun rise over the Elizabeth River the second I woke up on Saturday.

We spent part of the day trying to catch fish, and just relaxing on the pier. Then I got to shoot some great pictures of the sunset. The beauty of it all reminded me that in spite of our hectic, anxious lives, it'll all be okay, if we just stop to enjoy the simple things. A cliche, perhaps, but true nonetheless. And we educators probably need to remember that more than most.

Thank you for the great reminder and the wonderful pictures! I am finding myself in the same place as you-- trying to learn as much as I can, manage my time, and encourage technology integration... As well as keep up with my kids and personal life! It will all work out, and it will all be okay. Great post!

What great photos!!! I remember that night as well. I noticed the nigh sky and the sliver of a moon as we got J ready for her Trick-ortreating jaunt. Wish I would have had a view like that for her backdrop! Thanks for the the smile you put on my face...
